Luxury

The thing that I hate about luxury is that I’m not a part of it. Mine are rather dull and shabby surroundings in one of those eyesore industrial cities. My city’s landscape is a wasteland with hardly any rickety trees, bald bushes and chronically faded flowers. It’s a dowdy concrete desert. And the only clouds that you can see are smoky monsters coming out from factory chimneys. The smoke clouds majestically above the houses and you can’t even recollect how the sky looks like… ‘Luxury’ is a word non-existant in the vocabulary of folks here. And the only luxury I personally experience from day to day in all its aspects is the luxury of being alone and doing whatever I want whenever I want. That’s something I admit but still somehow I can’t enjoy it that much in this industrial dust bowl of a city. Try real luxury in the purest of forms and magnificently indecent affluence in style, architecture, everyday life for a single day at least… Just to boost my fading ego, caress and comfort all my senses strained day after day by overdoses of unsightliness, and check how it really is to live a life in absolute luxury… It’s not so much a dream but a nagging curiosity. Would I feel better after such luxorious experience or, on the contrary, even worse knowing what I miss. They say you don’t miss something you don’t know. If you don’t know what to crave for you don’t crave it. You live your life without being overwhelmed by a paralyzing feeling of loss. There is no paradise lost then. You are free from bitter envy, heartburning and disappointment as you don’t know other life. If you have experienced something better you may soon start hating your present life as inadequate and pathetic. You will grow totally depressed and resigned but you may also decide to change your life to get the best of it. I guess it’s a very individual matter how it will affect you when you’ve got familiar with a better life. Anyway, I am stil very determined to face total luxury – survive the encounter and make the most of it. It’s a matter of money and priorities in spending it. And now, what I love about luxury is that you can get it ‘at discounted rates’. Funny, I know. It’s a quote from Luxury Rentals Miami Beach website and I laughed my head off when I read it! Luxury and rebates seem like a contradiction in terms. I’ve always thought that luxury escapes things like ‘discounts’ or ‘preferred rates’. To me those terms don’t come together at all. But the fact is that luxury is more affordable that I would have ever imagined. Standard rates for a suite in a luxury hotel on Miami Beach may go into thousands of dollars per night. How much I paid is my sweet mystery. It should be enough to tell you that I afforded a whole godly weekend in luxury without going bankrupt. And how was it? Well, AWESOME!!! Those were truly unforgettable moments. I kept on repeating: Moment last forever! Do I miss it? Oh, yes, but the thought that I can afford it from time to time motivates me to work even harder and live on. |
